The Criteria For Recommending a Top-Rated Website

General Add comments

Why do you recommend something?

Well, first off, I must say that a recommendation is mostly a matter of taste. You like something, and sometimes you can´t prove why. You just like it and want to recommend it to someone else.

For example, you have seen a movie and you think it is great. Without doubt, you will recommend it to a friend and if you are asked why, you will hardly find the reasons.

But, it is not always true. You probably like something and you recommend it to your friend by telling your reasons. You list the advantages of the recommended item and try to convince your audience. In fact, you have found some criteria for recommending that item.

Recommending a website is not an exception. When you come across a good website, you say to yourself: “Hey, it´s awesome!” The more you browse the website, the more you like it. Later on, you will probably recommend it to a friend.

What is a Top Recommended Website?

Like I said before, a recommendation is mostly based on your personal points of view and experiences. But, there are definitely some main criteria which help you learn how to distinguish a top-rated website from a regular one.

Taking these criteria into account when you are going to recommend a website is somewhat important. Although the selection of most websites that will be recommended here on this blog is mostly a matter of taste, but I try to consider these criteria, as well.

The Criteria For Recommending a Top-Rated Website:

1. The Appearance :

This feature is the first thing of a website you find out when you visit it. Maybe, it is a matter of a taste, but a really good-looking website is definitely a professional website and in most cases, it has paid a lot to have a web developer design the site which means that the website is not a cheap one. A professional website is often a reliable website. So, it is worth recommending.

2. The Content :

In fact, it is the most important aspect of a good website. Is the content high-quality and fresh? Does the website provide a useful content? It can be articles, audios, videos and so on. In other words, it is the content of a website which makes visitors happy and has them come back and check it out.

Sometimes, the content of a website could be products and services. The items that a potential buyer is looking for. Again, it is worth recommending.

3. The Navigation :

Have you ever been to a website having difficulty finding a specific part or topic? Would you recommend that website? I don´t think so!

Maybe, this feature falls under the “Appearance” category, but I would like to emphasize the importance of this criteria. A top-rated website is really easy to navigate.

4. Google PageRank :

If you have a Google Toolbar, you can see a bar called PageRank on your toolbar. Shortly, it is a technique which indicates the popularity and importance of a web page meaning that the more sites linking to a web page, the higher its PageRank. So, it can be another criteria for recommending a website.

But, I don´t consider this feature as the necessary criteria. In fact, there are many websites with low PageRank, but high-quality content and vice versa.

5. Alexa Traffic Rank :

Alexa is a web information company that lists all of the websites, sorted by traffic. It collects the needed data from millions of Alexa Toolbar users and indicates the measure of page views and users. In other words, Alexa rank is based on the website traffic or its visitors. The more traffic, the better rank which is expressed as a lower rank. So, for example, the top site by traffic has the rank 1.

Traffic can be a good indication for a top-rated website. It means that there are currently a lot of Internet users visiting that website which means it is an important website and worth recommending. But, remember that this criteria is not a necessary one.

6. The Accessibility :

If it takes too much time for a site to be uploaded, or you can´t have access to some pages, or it has annoying pop-ups and pop-unders, or it is difficult to go forwards and backwards, would you really recommend it to someone else? I don´t think so.

The accessibility is an important criteria for selecting and recommending a website. Take it into account!

7. The Privacy :

Respecting the private life of the visitors is a necessary criteria. A top-rated website should not request the personal information, or at least should not share it with others. A recommended website has always a clear privacy policy.

8. The Reliability :

There are different methods for checking the reliability of a website. For example, you can find it out by checking the owner´s info that is usually published on reliable and powerful Internet resources. A simple search will help you learn more about the person, company or the organization behind the website.

Sometimes, you may notice an icon of a legal and trusted organization on a website. Although, it is not the main criteria of a top-rated website, but having a license of a reliable organization can be a good indication of the reliability of a recommended website.

9. The Feedback :

Maybe, it is one of the most important criteria for selecting and recommending a website, especially for those that have been around for a while. Checking various forums and communities may help you figure it out better and easier. Basically, a website with lots of negative feedback cannot be a good recommendations.

So, here was the list of the main criteria for a top recommended website. But, it is not finished. You maybe know some other important features, too. And remember that the recommendation of a website can be a matter of taste, as well.

Hope, you like this informative post and take the criteria into account. I personally try to consider them as well.

Farmville is so addicting that my firm just prevent Facebook in our network since most workers use half of their time logged in. One time, our CEO was roaming in the finance department and to his dismay, all of the employee was playing Farmville. The next morning, we cannot go to the site and there is a message circulating about restriction of social network sites and instant messengers.
