Are Google PageRank & Alexa Traffic Rankings Important?

If you have been visiting this blog for a while, chances are that you have seen some top-rated websites being recommended here. The first question you may ask is that if there are some criteria for choosing and recommending a website.

For those who are new to this blog, I must say that it is place of recommendations, meaning that you will discover a top website consistently. Therefore, I suggest you to at least check out this post: (The Criteria For Recommending a Top-Rated Website) that provides you the needed information about the basic facts of choosing and recommending a best-rated website.

Like thousands of other interesting personal blogs out there, this website provides the tips and information about various resources on the net based on personal opinion. So, the recommendation can be as a matter of taste. With that being said, all the efforts have been made to take some criteria into account before recommending a website.

Two of those criteria which I personally consider as important factors are Google PageRank and Alexa Traffic Rankings. In this post, I am going to get through those facts.

What is Google PageRank™?

Why is it important?

It is a kind of software developed by Google founders that builds a system for ranking web pages and plays a very large role in many of Google search tools.

If you have downloaded Google Toolbar and installed it on your Internet browser, you can see this feature that displays the visited page´s PageRank as a whole number between 0 and 10. The most popular websites have a PageRank of 10 while the least have 0.

Google has not exactly revealed the precise method for determining a PageRank value, but here is a short explanation of the system: A link from Page A to Page B is considered as a vote, by page A for page B. The more back-links Page B receives, the more popularity it gets. So, Page B must be somehow important that too many web pages have casted a vote for it. In fact, a page´s PageRank is Google´s measure of the importance of the page.

Considering the page´s PageRank is not necessarily the most important criteria for distinguishing a top-rated website, but it can be a factor. On the other hand, there are literally tons of great websites out there with very low PageRank values. So, this factor alone is not enough.

Recommended websites on this blog are reviewed and introduced according to a dozen factors. A combination of those factors makes it easier for selecting the best-rated ones. And, it´s true. The Current PageRank of the recommended website´s home page matters. The minimum requirements of the recommended websites will be revealed, but remember that they are subject to change!

What is Alexa Traffic Rank?

Why is it important?

It is a ranking system developed by Alexa Internet, Inc providing traffic details of a specific website that collects its data from millions of Alexa Toolbar users.

If you have an Alexa Toolbar, you can see this measure on your toolbar. The Datas have been computed by Alexa for showing the combined measure of page views and users (reach).

Having that said, you can determine the popularity of a website by its traffic. If a particular website has a high Alexa Rank, it can be considered as a populated website which means a famous place on the Internet. So, a website with an Alexa Traffic Rank of 25 is more popular than a site with a Rank of 100.

Taking Alexa Traffic Rank into account can help you distinguish a top website. Again, this factor alone should not be considered as the most important criteria, but it is a good idea to always check out the website´s Current Alexa Traffic Rank for reviewing and analysing.

I DO take Alexa Rankings into account, too when I am going to recommend a top website. If a website has a decent traffic, it can be a well-know place, a resource that many Internet users check out and even recommend it to other. So, it is worth recommending.

While these datas are always changing, it is highly recommended to check out the current ranks from the right toolbars or on the official websites. The minimum requirements for choosing the recommended websites on this blog will be disclosed here.
